Job Title: Street Truck Driver
Salary range: $38,521.60-$51,500.80 or $18.52-$24.76 per hour
Department: Street and Drainage Department
Hours: Full-Time Non-Exempt
Job Description:
The Truck Driver transports equipment and materials to job sites for street repair within the jurisdiction of the City. Position is deemed essential personnel and safety sensitive.
Essential Duties
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each of the following Essential Duties satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential duties of the position:
- Operates dump truck and heavy equipment.
- Transports various types of materials for street repair (asphalt, gravel, dirt, brush, etc.).
- Transports heavy equipment to job sites as needed.
- Conducts pre-trip and post-trip inspection on a daily basis.
- Performs vehicle maintenance on a daily basis. (Fluids, tires, lights)
- Operates jackhammers, ditching tools, chainsaws, and other small gas-powered machinery.
- Operates hand and power tools to make street repairs.
- Spreads asphalt, concrete, etc. to insure a smooth finish on job completion.
- Removes and disposes brushes, limbs, and trees from right of ways. (cut, chip, burn)
- Performs concrete maintenance work. (street, curb, tile)
- Replaces and repairs signs and poles throughout the city.
- Prepares streets for paving, seals streets, and compacts asphalt mats.
- Clears and disposes of weeds, brush and limbs that fall in the right of way.
- Cleans and replaces culverts, drains, ditches and bridges.
- Mows of ditching and right-of-ways.
- May be lead of work crew for street projects.
- Reports any matters of concern regarding vehicles or equipment to Streets & Drainage Director and Assistant Director.
- Will be required to work and serve on-call outside of normal business hours, including nights, weekends, and/or holidays as needed by the department.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS & COMPETENCIES
Experience, knowledge, and training typically resulting from a combination of education or years of experience in street construction or the equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to satisfactorily perform the essential functions of the positions.
Basic Qualifications:
- High school diploma, or equivalent
- Class B Commercial Driver’s License with air brakes required.
- Class A Driver’s License with Tanker Endorsement, preferred.
- Seven (7) to eleven (11) months of related work experience, preferred.
- Current Flagger Certification or must be able to obtain certification within one (1) year of employment.
- Current Trenching and Excavations Safety Technician Certification or must be able to obtain certification within one (1) year of employment.
- Current IMSA Work Zone Traffic Control Certification or must be able to obtain within one (1) year of employment.
Knowledge
- Knowledge of street, drainage, and utility repair and maintenance preferred.
- Knowledge of construction work in concrete, asphalt, water drainage systems, preferred.
- Knowledge of safety procedures related to the equipment being operated and work zones.
Skills
- Skill in safe operation and maintenance of various types of commercial vehicles (dump trucks, trailers, water, and oil trucks), including in adverse weather conditions.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong sense of ownership and initiative, collaborative and flexible attitude.
Abilities
- Ability to communicate in a positive, friendly manner to employees, supervisor, coworkers, clients, etc. always.
- Ability to operate Jet Rod, chippers, paint machines, concrete saws, etc. used in roadway and pavement maintenance.
- Performs other duties as necessary or assigned.
- Ability to operate chainsaws, power tools, lawn equipment for right of way maintenance and storm clean-up.
- Ability to perform manual labor and driving tasks in all types of weather.
- Ability to interact with the public within the operations of the department.
- Ability to follow written or oral instructions from supervisor or crew leader.
- Ability to assess problem areas and report to supervisor for inspection or repair.
